Today started off like the last 12,435 days of employment with this great company. I arrived at work at my normal time 6:00AM, don't ask me why, because I couldn't tell you. I logged into all the things I need to do my job as if I was going to do them, and I wasn't going to. Yesterday, I had my exit interview with my boss, so that's taken care of. The only official thing I had to do today is to hand my keys and ID to one of my peers, so he could give them to the boss next time he saw him. I could've come in handed the keys and ID over and went home for good, and no one would say a word about it. But maybe, just maybe, I was raised differently (read right) I would have felt guilty for not "earning" the days pay that I got for coming in today. So I went through the motions, and spent most of the morning at the office, saying my goodbyes to all the people I worked with for the last year. I walked around the center, shaking hands, getting congratulated, telling people to "hang in there, your time is coming". Since I was only in my last position and location for a years, there weren't as many friendships and bonds. There are a few people there that I will truly miss, they know who they are so I won't mention any names.
Around 9:00AM I headed over to my previous work location about 5 miles away to say so long to all the folks. I was there 6 plus years so the list of goodbyes was a little longer and a lot harder to get through. As expected, I got a little "verklempt" while saying goodbye at the old office. But all in all it was good to see people there that I've know for years. Saying goodbye has never been easy for me, but I did pretty good.
This was not the best day of my 34 year career with AT&T, and it wasn't the worst day either, it was just the last.
It still hasn't sunk in yet.
an awesome ending to a new beginning Andy, can't wait to see you.
